About the Event

The birth of the Rock Musical has added new sounds and styles into musical theatre, changing the landscape altogether. These musicals can sound closer to contemporary music than other musicals, even from the same era. However, this different musical style does not negate other aspects of the musical theatre genre within these shows. This session will explore the primary examples of Hair, Rent and Spring Awakening, along with a peek into other Rock Musical shows such as Bye Bye Birdie, American Idiot and Hamilton. This theory-based workshop requires no preparation and can be taken as a standalone or in conjunction with other sessions in the Musical Theatre History pack.
