January 3.
That's the day on the horizon.
January 3.
That's the day we officially sign with the theatre and I can announce where our first show is going to be. This particular theatre normally doesn't book anything more than three months in advance. Wanting our first production to be in October 2018, that would mean not booking until July - the start of our rehearsal period. And that was a risk I was not willing to take. Zurich is notorious for not having very many performance venues, so the ones that do exist fill up fast. What if we waited until July and then the theatre said, "actually, no, we don't have room for you in October"? We'd be stuck.
So, I did something that put me out of my comfort zone. I negotiated.
Back and forth, back and forth (luckily it was mostly through email and in English, so it wasn't too bad). I explained how I really wanted to use their theatre and blah blah blah. Back and forth, back and forth. They eventually said these are the 10 days in October which are available and I took 7 of them. This was back at the beginning of November.
We agreed that on January 3, they would give me an official yes or no. This is well before what they would normally do. We agreed because of that, I would pay in full for the use of the space, rather than in instalments. Ouch. But it's security for both of us, so I understand.
Look at me, negotiating like a wiz!
So, exactly one month today, we should have a theatre. Watch this space. (And if at all possible, click over to the donate page - and tell your friends to as well - because we're halfway to raising enough to pay for the theatre space and every little bit helps!!)
As for the play itself, I don't know if I've mentioned it already, but we will be putting up The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde and here's how it's looking.
