Attention actors!
We are so happy to be able to offer an exclusive new training program! Starting in 2025, in collaboration with Ettore Nicoletti, we will be offering a long-form improvisation training program which will run from January to July and will end with a 2 week stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
We have had the question previously, is long-form improvisation the same as theatre sports and improv games and the answer is no. Long-form improvisation is unscripted theatre where performers create an entire story on the spot, exploring characters, relationships, and themes in real-time. While it can be comedic, it can also be serious, and everything in between. Long-form improv is storytelling without a net, with spontaneity and collaboration at its core.
(If you are interested in exploring the concept of long-form improv more, Ettore is doing a two-day intensive taster course with us next weekend, Nov. 16-17 and there are still a few spots left. You can find out more about that here.)
The Fringe training program will be open to 4-6 actors and will cost CHF 2,000. This fee will include:
approximately 5 weekend training sessions throughout the year plus at least one showcase pre-festival.
accommodation at the festival.
the unique opportunity to tour outside of Switzerland.
fifteen (15) performances at the festival.
assistance with UK visa / Fringe performer registration.
one-on-one coaching to develop and pursue your Fringe goals.
The fee does not include:
transportation to and from the festival (though assistance with finding flights etc. can be provided).
daily costs incurred whilst at the festival (food, drinks, activities etc.).
insurance (travel or otherwise).
In order to qualify for this program, actors must:
be over the age of 18 (as of February 1, 2025).
have a valid passport and be freely able to travel outside of Switzerland.
be able to commit to being in Edinburgh for the duration of the program (July 31-Aug. 16).
have some previous acting experience (doesn't have to be professional, any experience counts).
Training Sessions Throughout the Year
Throughout the year there will be approximately 5 weekend-long training sessions to develop skills and ensemble. There will also be a minimum of at least one showcase leading up to departure, to give actors a feel for working in front of an audience. In the days leading up to the festival, if need be, there will also be the opportunity for shorter evening rehearsal sessions.
Accommodation at the Festival
We will organize accommodation for all participants at the festival. Participants who would prefer to arrange their own accommodation will pay a reduced fee of CHF 1,500 for the course. (Fee does not need to be paid all at once).
The Unique Opportunity to Tour Outside Switzerland
Being at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an incredible experience (we have been before and there's nothing like it!). It's a chance to dip your toe into the experience of living as a working actor for a few weeks. It also provides the opportunity to see Scotland and to connect with other actors and creators from all over the world who come to the Festival.
Fifteen (15) Performances
Our show will perform every day from Aug. 1-16 at 6:30pm, with the exception of Sun. Aug. 10, which will serve as a day off / rest period for the actors. This early evening time slot is ideal for allowing actors to attend networking events, workshops and talks in the morning / afternoon, as well as attend other shows in the evenings. In our experience, having Sunday off is extremely valuable, as it also allows actors a chance to recharge, see the sights and explore a little bit of Scotland outside of the Festival.
Assistance with UK Visa / Fringe Performer Registration
The Fringe Festival has agreements with the Scottish government to provide special performance visas to those coming from outside the UK (like us!) and we will take care of the relevant documentation to help you acquire this, so you can work in Scotland for the duration of our Festival stay without any issues.
One-on-One Coaching to Develop and Pursue Your Fringe Goals
Are you going to the Fringe to see as many shows as possible? Do you want to attend talks and workshops? Do you see this as a networking opportunity? Or are you not sure what your goal is? We're offering 1:1 consultation sessions to help you make the most of your time on tour! We will also help with organizing and passing on any opportunities we think would align with your goals.
More concrete dates will follow soon, but we wanted to wet your appetite now and give you some food for thought! As the program is only open to 4-6 actors, we will be holding auditions in mid-January / early-February. By then, we will have all our rehearsal dates in place as well.
In the meantime, if you would like to stay informed with the latest updates on the program before we make them generally public, you can email us (info@whiterabbittheatre.org) and we'll add you to our exclusive (non-binding) Fringe mailing list, which we will be using to send out updates on the program, audition dates etc. to those interested before sending out to the general public.
And of course, as always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!!
